Coming from Ecuador, and having a degree in "Ecology and Tourism", I am interested in
the relation man-nature, I use my art not only as an "Ode" to celebrate earth's
magnificence but most important to study, and create awareness of situations that
need a voice. I use vibrant colors and delicate textures to seduce the viewer
to follow my narrative, but my goal is to wake in the spectator feelings that
confront them about their position in the world. The interpretation of my work has
many layers where the element of surprise is very important, just as the
accessibility for viewers of all ages: children admire the color and playfulness,
adults enjoys the technique, young adults and teenagers are touched by the powerful
messages.
In addition to my subject matter, my media tells a story as well. In my effort to
minimize the carbon foot print, I use pure bee's wax and pigments exclusively.
Always applied over wood, these noble, biodegradable raw elements transmit a very
pure and organic energy –– reinforcing the supremacy of Nature in all
that I do.
The plasticity of the wax requires me to interchange painting and sculpting
continuously. The technique itself is quite rigorous and unforgiving. My untamed
artistic expression coupled with regimented diligence is a beautiful challenge, also
a full immersion learning experience about the depicted subjects.
My work, has always had an ethical point of view, I am going to the past rescuing a
very ancient technique "Encaustic" to move forward in this modern world.
